Concrete
Chemicals carries a full line of iron oxides and chrome
oxide. Iron oxides are durable, UV resistant, colorants
which can be used to color concrete, grout, mortar, stucco,
swimming pool plaster, and wall plaster. Concrete Chemicals
offers reds, black, green chromium oxide, yellow, and blends
upon request. For blues, Concrete Chemicals offers cobalts.
For do-it-your-selfers who are working in the backyard with
hand mixing tools,
iron oxides may be purchased in one-pound
bags, five-pound bags, or fifty-pound bags.
In order to calculate the number of pounds of color needed
for your backyard job, count the number of sacks of cement
you will be using for your project. Note that white cement
will produce bright colors, while gray cement will produce
muted, darker colors. Since all gray cements are different,
it is recommended to test a little of your gray cement with
the selected iron oxide. Add as much iron oxide color in the
test amount of cement until the desired color is achieved.
Then scale up. Again, white cement shows off color much more
than gray cement. The same test with white cement may reveal
you need only one half pound of red-brown iron oxide for one
sack of white cement. Please feel free to call if you’d like
to discuss your project.
Custom blends are available. Send us your desired color and
we will blend iron oxides to match the color. Custom color
development: $140 per hour of bench time. Allow 3 days for
custom color matching. Add $50 for “Rush Development.”
Prices for one pound of iron oxide start at $6 per pound and
decrease as volume increases. Email us or call for
consultation (888)867-5701.
For blues and greens, we suggest you consult our Color
Concrete page.
